BookLyre — Privacy Policy

Version 3 · Effective October 24, 2026

BookLyre is built to keep your books on your device. This policy explains what the app does with your information.

What stays on your device

BookLyre does not use cloud-based processing. The books you import, the characters and dialogue the app detects, your voice choices, and the audio the app prepares are processed and stored on your device. We do not run servers that receive this content, and we do not have access to it. (A self-hosted server option is planned. If it becomes available, your content would go only to a server you host and control, and we will update this policy first.)

Some features use Apple Intelligence on supported devices — for example character analysis and reviewing dialogue assignments. These use Apple's on-device model; BookLyre does not send this content to Apple or to us for them.

Books you import are kept in BookLyre's documents folder, which is visible in the Files app and included in your device backups (such as iCloud Backup) according to your iOS settings. Audio BookLyre prepares is stored encrypted, so it can be played only in BookLyre. Book, chapter, and bookmark titles can appear in Spotlight search on your device, and the title and cover of what you are listening to appear in the system's Now Playing controls, including on the Lock Screen and connected devices such as cars and speakers. You can turn off Spotlight results for BookLyre in iOS Settings.

What we collect

We do not collect personal information through the app. BookLyre has no user accounts, does not use advertising or advertising identifiers, does not include third-party analytics, tracking, or crash-reporting tools, and does not sell or share personal data.

If you have chosen in iOS Settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may provide us with crash reports and aggregated usage statistics under Apple's privacy policy.

When the app uses the internet

BookLyre connects to the internet only when you use a feature that needs it:

iCloud

BookLyre does not store your books, library, or settings in iCloud. Your device backups (such as iCloud Backup) may include BookLyre's files according to your iOS settings, as described above.

Purchases

You buy BookLyre from Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your payment details. BookLyre has no in-app purchases.

Microphone and speech recognition

BookLyre asks for microphone access only if you use a feature that listens to you, such as voice commands. Speech recognition uses Apple's Speech framework, and BookLyre requires on-device recognition, so your speech is not sent to Apple.

Reporting a problem

If you use "Spotted a bug?" to send us a report, it is sent as an email from your own email account, so we receive your email address and whatever you write. If you turn on "Include diagnostics" (it is off by default), the report also includes your app version, iOS version, device model, language and region setting, the screen you were on and — if a book is open — its title, the chapter, the current speaker, and — only if you also choose to include it — up to 1,000 characters of the line being read. You can review the whole report before sending it and turn diagnostics off. We use reports only to fix problems and delete them within 12 months.

Children

BookLyre is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Deleting your data

Deleting a book in the app removes the book file, its prepared audio, and its search entries. The app's automatic library backups made during updates remain until you delete them or the app. Deleting the app removes what it stored on the device, except items kept in your device's keychain.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and, for material changes, notify you in the app before the change applies to you.
