BookLyre Studio — Privacy Policy

Version 3 · Effective October 24, 2026

BookLyre Studio is built to keep your work on your device. This policy explains what the app does with your information.

What stays on your device

BookLyre Studio does not use cloud-based processing. The books and manuscripts you import, the characters and dialogue the app detects, your voice choices, any voices you create from your own recordings, any narration you record, and the audio the app generates are processed and stored on your device. We do not run servers that receive this content, and we do not have access to it. (A self-hosted server option is planned. If it becomes available, your content would go only to a server you host and control, and we will update this policy first.)

Some features use Apple Intelligence on supported devices — for example character analysis and reviewing dialogue assignments. These use Apple's on-device model; BookLyre Studio does not send this content to Apple or to us for them.

Files in BookLyre Studio's documents folder — including imported books, generated audio, and exported files — are visible in the Files app and are included in your device backups (such as iCloud Backup) according to your iOS settings. Book, chapter, and bookmark titles can appear in Spotlight search on your device, and the title and cover of what you are listening to appear in the system's Now Playing controls, including on the Lock Screen and connected devices such as cars and speakers. You can turn off Spotlight results for BookLyre Studio in iOS Settings.

What we collect

We do not collect personal information through the app. BookLyre Studio has no user accounts, does not use advertising or advertising identifiers, does not include third-party analytics, tracking, or crash-reporting tools, and does not sell or share personal data.

If you have chosen in iOS Settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may provide us with crash reports and aggregated usage statistics under Apple's privacy policy.

When the app uses the internet

BookLyre Studio connects to the internet only when you use a feature that needs it:

Optional iCloud sync and sharing

iCloud sync is off until you turn it on in Settings → Collaboration → iCloud Sync. If you turn it on, BookLyre Studio stores in your own iCloud account: your library information (such as titles, authors, descriptions, series, publisher, and ISBN details), reading progress, bookmarks and their notes, collections, pronunciation and voice-assignment settings, some app preferences, and a list of your devices (device name, model, and iOS version) so you can manage them. Your book files, manuscripts, recordings, and generated audio are not uploaded by iCloud sync; they stay on your device. This is storage, not processing: BookLyre Studio does not process your content in the cloud.

When iCloud sync is on, BookLyre Studio also saves a small record of which version of the Terms of Use you accepted and when, so your other devices don't ask you again. It contains no personal information.

If you share a project through iCloud, BookLyre Studio copies that project's details, chapter text, and character list (names, genders, and assigned voices), plus any notes you add to it, into iCloud so the people you invite can open it according to the permissions you set. Sharing and access are managed by Apple's iCloud, outside BookLyre Studio: you decide who is invited and can remove access at any time. We cannot access your iCloud data or the content you share, and we are not responsible for what the people you share with do with it.

iCloud data is handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy and counts against your iCloud plan. Turning iCloud sync off stops syncing but does not delete what is already in iCloud; to delete it, go to your device's Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → BookLyre Studio.

Purchases

Purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your payment details. BookLyre Studio checks your purchase and subscription status with Apple on your device and keeps a copy of that status on the device so paid features work offline. To keep track of the one free book, BookLyre Studio stores a one-way fingerprint (a hash) of that book in your device's keychain. It cannot be turned back into the book's text and is not sent to us. Keychain items can remain on your device after you delete the app.

Microphone and speech recognition

BookLyre Studio asks for microphone access only when you use a recording feature: creating a voice from your own recordings, recording narration, dictating text, or giving voice commands.

Reporting a problem

If you use "Spotted a bug?" to send us a report, it is sent as an email from your own email account, so we receive your email address and whatever you write. If you turn on "Include diagnostics" (it is off by default), the report also includes your app version, iOS version, device model, language and region setting, the screen you were on and — if a book is open — its title, the chapter, the current speaker, and — only if you also choose to include it — up to 1,000 characters of the line being read. You can review the whole report before sending it and turn diagnostics off. We use reports only to fix problems and delete them within 12 months.

Files you export

When you export an audiobook or ebook, BookLyre Studio saves a copy in its own folder on your device (visible in the Files app) and then lets you send it wherever you choose, for example to the Files app or another app. What happens next is governed by that destination.

Children

BookLyre Studio is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Deleting your data

Deleting a book in the app removes the book file, its generated chapter audio and audiobook file, and its search entries. Copies you exported and the app's automatic library backups made during updates remain until you delete them or the app. If iCloud sync is on, the book's information also remains in iCloud until you delete it there. Deleting the app removes what it stored on the device, except items kept in your device's keychain (such as the free-book fingerprint) and anything stored in iCloud. To remove iCloud data, first stop sharing any shared projects, then turn off iCloud sync in BookLyre Studio and delete its data in your device's iCloud settings (see above). Keep backups of anything you want to keep (see the Terms of Use).

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and, for material changes, notify you in the app before the change applies to you.
