Common questions

Which books can I use?

DRM-free EPUB files. BookLyre can't open books protected by DRM, which includes most books bought from the big ebook stores. Many authors and publishers sell DRM-free editions, and public-domain books are DRM-free.

Does my book get uploaded anywhere?

No. Your books are analysed and their audio is generated on your device. We don't run servers that receive your books, and we can't see them. See the privacy policy.

How much space does it need?

About 1 GB for the app and its built-in voice model, plus space for the audio it prepares. You can see and delete each book's audio in Settings → Storage.

My device gets warm while generating.

Generating audio is demanding work. The app slows down automatically when your device gets hot. Keeping it plugged in and somewhere cool helps.

Do I need to pay for anything inside the app?

No. BookLyre is a one-time purchase on the App Store, with everything included: no in-app purchases or subscriptions. If you get a new device, download it again from the App Store with the same Apple Account at no charge. For refunds, use Apple's Report a Problem page.
