BookLyre Studio — Terms of Use and Disclaimer
Version 3 · Effective October 24, 2026
BookLyre Studio is made and sold by Brandon J Conover, an individual developer in Arkansas, USA ("we", "us").
BookLyre Studio is a tool that helps independent authors reach a wider audience by turning their written work into an audiobook experience with a distinct AI-generated voice for each character. By tapping "I understand and agree", you accept these terms.
1. What BookLyre Studio is for
BookLyre Studio analyses an EPUB or manuscript, identifies its characters, assigns each line of dialogue to a speaker, and narrates it with on-device AI voices. It is designed to help independent authors offer their readers an audiobook experience. It is not a replacement for professionally recorded audiobooks.
2. Your rights to the works you use
Works you don't own. You may use BookLyre Studio to listen to books you have lawfully obtained. Audio, text, or any other output made from a work whose rights you do not own is for your personal, private use only. You may not share, sell, publish, upload, or otherwise distribute it. Books you add as a reader stay in your Reader library, and audio made from them cannot be exported from BookLyre Studio.
Works you upload as an author. Anything you upload to the Author workspace must be your own work, and you must hold exclusive rights to it — it must not be licensed to a publisher or anyone else. BookLyre Studio asks you to confirm this for each upload and may refuse a file that appears to be a published or licensed edition (for example, one naming another publisher or rights holder); you can still add such a book to your Reader library for personal listening. BookLyre Studio cannot verify ownership, so this confirmation is your promise, and you are responsible if it is untrue.
Commercial use. You may sell, publish, or distribute audiobooks, ebooks, or other output made with BookLyre Studio only for works whose rights you exclusively own (for example, books you wrote and have not licensed to anyone else). Exports are available only for works in the Author workspace, and before any export BookLyre Studio asks you to confirm this.
Your responsibility. You are solely responsible for the works you import and for anything you create, export, or distribute with BookLyre Studio, including obtaining any permissions you need and complying with the terms of any store or platform where you publish.
3. DRM-free files only
BookLyre Studio works only with DRM-free files. It does not remove, decrypt, or work around DRM or any other copy protection, and it will not import an EPUB that it detects is protected by DRM. Books and audiobooks purchased from stores that apply DRM will not import or play.
4. Synthetic voices
The narration and character voices that BookLyre Studio generates are synthetic (AI-generated) and are produced on your device. If BookLyre Studio's voice model is unavailable, it may use the voices built into iOS, which are also synthetic. Recordings you make yourself — for example in Narrator Studio — are your own recordings, not generated voices. When you distribute an audiobook made with BookLyre Studio, you are responsible for disclosing that it uses synthetic narration wherever a store, platform, or law requires it.
Voices made from recordings. You may create a voice only from recordings of your own voice. By saving such a voice, you confirm the recordings are of you and that you consent to their use in the app. You may not create a voice from anyone else's recordings, and you may not use BookLyre Studio to imitate a real person's voice without their explicit permission.
5. Accuracy
Character detection, dialogue assignment, and series grouping are automatic and are not guaranteed to be 100% accurate. Lines may be assigned to the wrong character or to the narrator, and names or words may be mispronounced. You can review and correct assignments in the app. Always review your audiobook before publishing it.
6. On-device processing
BookLyre Studio does not use cloud-based processing. Your books are analysed, and their audio is generated, on your device. BookLyre Studio does not upload your books, manuscripts, recordings, or generated audio to us or to any third-party processing service.
Optional iCloud sync and sharing. If you turn on iCloud sync, BookLyre Studio keeps your library information, reading progress, bookmarks and notes, collections, and voice and pronunciation settings in your own iCloud account. Your book files, manuscripts, recordings, and generated audio stay on your device. If you share a project with collaborators through iCloud, BookLyre Studio copies that project's chapter text and character list to iCloud so the people you invite can open it. This is storage, not processing. Sharing and access are managed by Apple's iCloud, outside BookLyre Studio: you choose who can access your shared projects, and you are responsible for sharing only content you have the right to share. BookLyre Studio cannot access your iCloud content and is not responsible for how people you share with use it. iCloud is governed by Apple's terms and counts against your iCloud storage plan.
Because processing happens on your device, there are practical limits:
- Speed. Generation is slower than cloud services. A full-length audiobook can take six to eight hours or more, depending on the book, the voices you choose, and your device.
- Keep the app open. Full-book generation runs fastest while BookLyre Studio is open and on screen. If iOS closes BookLyre Studio while it is in the background, start generation again: chapters that were already finished are kept, and generation continues with the next unfinished chapter.
- Storage. BookLyre Studio, including its built-in voice model, needs about 1 GB, and each finished audiobook needs additional space. Make sure your device has enough free storage before you start.
- Heat and battery. Generation is demanding, and your device may become warm and use more battery. BookLyre Studio slows down automatically when your device gets hot and waits for it to cool if it gets very hot. You can also stop generation at any time; when you start it again, finished chapters are kept and it continues with the next unfinished chapter. Keeping your device plugged in and in a cool place helps.
7. Backups and loss of work
Your books, manuscripts, character and voice settings, and generated audio are stored on your device. BookLyre Studio is not responsible for any loss of work or data, including loss caused by app updates, errors, deleting the app, device failure, loss or theft of the device, or running out of storage. Keep your own backups of your manuscripts and of any files you export — for example, by exporting them to the Files app, a computer, or cloud storage you control. Optional iCloud features, where offered, are not a substitute for your own backups.
8. Planned: self-hosted server option
We plan to offer an optional way to run BookLyre Studio on a server that you host yourself. It is intended to create higher-fidelity audiobooks much faster, and to let authors collaborate with others on their works for beta reading, narration, and editing. This option is not yet available. Its features and timing may change, and it will be subject to its own terms when released.
9. Purchases
Paid features — one-time purchases and the Author subscription — are sold through Apple's App Store and are subject to Apple's terms, including its refund policies. Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; you can manage or cancel them in your Apple Account settings. If a subscription ends, your library, manuscripts, and the audio you have already created stay on your device, and you can keep listening to them in BookLyre Studio. Features that require the subscription — such as exporting audio and starting additional projects — are unavailable until you subscribe again.
10. No warranty
BookLyre Studio is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not guarantee that audiobooks made with BookLyre Studio will be accepted by any store, distributor, or platform.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for loss of data, revenue, or profits, arising from your use of BookLyre Studio. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the app or in-app purchases in the twelve months before the claim.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If we make a material change, BookLyre Studio will ask you to review and accept the new version before you continue using it.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arkansas, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, except where the law of the country you live in requires otherwise. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be waived.
